{"id":1056,"date":"2021-03-29T10:13:02","date_gmt":"2021-03-29T14:13:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ddeubel.me\/poetry\/?p=1056"},"modified":"2021-03-29T10:13:02","modified_gmt":"2021-03-29T14:13:02","slug":"a-confession-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ddeubel.me\/poetry\/a-confession-2\/","title":{"rendered":"A Confession"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How much longer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">can I get away with this?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scribbling in notebooks<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">mornings of endless coffees<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">lost in half worlds of thought<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">looking out the window<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">at the security guys<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">standing 12 hours a day<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">sucking on cigs and thumbing<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">their phones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How much longer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">can I get away with this?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Henry Miller sits<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">framed on my desk<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">at his desk feet up<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">getting away with it<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">him in Santa Monica<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">me, under the volcano<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Antigua, Guatemala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There&#8217;s Brahms<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">coming out of the speaker<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">and the keyboard waits<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">like an obedient dog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I&#8217;ll get to the work tomorrow&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There&#8217;s more thoughts to<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">attend to<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">more dancing in my head<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">and I&#8217;m planning<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">my next novel &#8211; how novel!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How much longer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">can I get away with this?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Walking through the world<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">like I own it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Schleping from kitchen table<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">to poker table to excel tables<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">always hungover and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">in love with<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">the mere fact I&#8217;m here<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">that I&#8217;m standing<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">with nothing really to do<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">except<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">get away with it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How much longer can I get away with this?
