9 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
and I’m looking for my glasses<\/p>\n\n\n\n
so I can look for my house keys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I give up<\/p>\n\n\n\n
sit before the window<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Monday<\/p>\n\n\n\n
watching all those below<\/p>\n\n\n\n
huzzing to battle<\/p>\n\n\n\n
rats with their asses<\/p>\n\n\n\n
cut off<\/p>\n\n\n\n
trying to<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“get stuff done”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
whatever that means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My aunt keeps writing me asking<\/p>\n\n\n\n
why I don’t write back<\/p>\n\n\n\n
asking<\/p>\n\n\n\n
why I don’t come and visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What is there to write about?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What is there to visit about? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I don’t get it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am ashamed of this world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Truly, madly, lividly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This cesspool of phoney desire<\/p>\n\n\n\n
clinking change<\/p>\n\n\n\n
and daily self-deception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Most days I sit in bed<\/p>\n\n\n\n
sucking on a watermelon rind<\/p>\n\n\n\n
waiting for something to happen<\/p>\n\n\n\n
something REAL to happen<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– a fresh smell of lilac<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– a child’s squeal of delight<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– a fresh breeze<\/p>\n\n\n\n
to waff through the window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just the always whine of a lawnmower<\/p>\n\n\n\n
churning through the manufactured beauty<\/p>\n\n\n\n
of the golf course across the street<\/p>\n\n\n\n
the hum<\/p>\n\n\n\n
of my mind<\/p>\n\n\n\n
and those below going about<\/p>\n\n\n\n
their busyness<\/p>\n\n\n\n
betraying this world<\/p>\n\n\n\n
one second at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I’ve had enough of it all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I guess I should<\/p>\n\n\n\n
get out of the house<\/p>\n\n\n\n
go visit my aunt<\/p>\n\n\n\n
and apologize for not writing<\/p>\n\n\n\n
because<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I have nothing good to say<\/p>\n\n\n\n
and<\/p>\n\n\n\n
