<\/p>\n
Poetry is hunger and protest.<\/p>\n
Not pretty sounds<\/p>\n
but a howl<\/p>\n
a scowl<\/p>\n
a wake up call for a drunk<\/p>\n
in a hotel with<\/p>\n
pretty lights and lies<\/p>\n
and a roulette table<\/p>\n
that never pays out<\/p>\n
yet, keeps going round and round and round.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Poetry is a cry, a picture<\/p>\n
that hopes to make the world<\/p>\n
ashamed<\/p>\n
that hopes to make the world,<\/p>\n
even one man<\/p>\n
come out of that hotel<\/p>\n
and into the sunlight<\/p>\n
of\u00a0\u00a0 acceptance<\/p>\n
and each moment thereafter<\/p>\n
good<\/p>\n
and each day thereafter<\/p>\n
a thought of the good.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Poetry is one hand slapping<\/p>\n
the face of mankind.<\/p>\n
(and that’s why it endures)<\/p>\n
