<\/p>\n
I came to Kyoto<\/p>\n
the quick way –<\/p>\n
splitting rice fields<\/p>\n
in a flash,<\/p>\n
arriving under the mountain<\/p>\n
in an instant,<\/p>\n
only to sit around<\/p>\n
walk around<\/p>\n
think,<\/p>\n
do nothing.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
What good is speed when time stretches out forever?<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I returned from Kyoto<\/p>\n
the quick way –<\/p>\n
splicing villages<\/p>\n
in a blink,<\/p>\n
arriving by the ocean<\/p>\n
so fast,<\/p>\n
only to lie around<\/p>\n
read<\/p>\n
write this poem<\/p>\n
and wait on death.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
What good is speed when the marker moves with us?<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Better to listen for<\/p>\n
the cuckoo’s cry<\/p>\n
and drink warm tea.<\/p>\n
The bamboo in the garden<\/p>\n
I’ve never known<\/p>\n
to rush –<\/p>\n
but how we prune it<\/p>\n
